There is no single best next-gen console, only the one that fits how you play. All three are a step up from the last generation, but they are aiming at different players, so it is worth a quick look at what each one does well before you pick.
The PS5 is the all-rounder, with fast load times, sharp 4K visuals and a strong line-up of exclusives. Its DualSense controller adds detailed vibration and resistance in the triggers, which a lot of games now build around. It comes in a Disc Edition and a cheaper Digital Edition, so you can choose whether you want to use physical games. If you want a powerful console with a big library of its own games, start with the refurbished PS5.
The Series X is the most powerful of the three and made for 4K TVs, with quick loading and a huge back catalogue through backward compatibility, so it plays a lot of older Xbox games as well as the newest ones. It pairs well with Xbox Game Pass if you like having a rotating library to dip into. If outright power and a big catalogue matter most, look at the refurbished Xbox Series X.
The Switch 2 is the versatile one. It is the only next-gen console you can play on the TV, on a table or in your hands, and it plays the existing Switch library alongside its own newer titles.
