The new Eco Case from The iOutlet
Meet The iOutlet’s Eco Case
Purchasing a device from The iOutlet has many ecological benefits. It’s simply not possible to manufacture an electronic device that is environmentally friendly, so whats the best alternative? Use what’s already been produced. For example, purchasing a refurbished Apple iPhone 8 from The iOutlet saves 148 grams in eco waste. If this is just for one device, imagine the impact this has on an industrial scale. So, going green and buying refurbished is the most sustainable way to obtain your tech.
So a customer has purchased their refurbished iPhone to reap the ecological benefits, the next question is how shall it be protected? Up steps The iOutlet’s brand new Eco Case.
What makes the Eco Case environmentally friendly?
The Eco Case isn’t made from the usual single-use materials you see with other cases. It’s in fact made from a biodegradable random copolymer called polybutylene adipate terephthalate (that’s quite a mouthful, lets call this PBAT). PBAT is a composite made from a range of materials such as coffee grounds, palm tree fibre and wheat-straw, designed to decompose over time. With the Eco Case serving it’s purpose, it only makes sense to make sure the packaging is recyclable too. Every case is packaged using cardboard and a small string of rope. Again, reducing waste and helping the customer join the circular economy.
How do the materials differ to the usual plastics?
Believe it or not, these alternate materials actually match and at times even exceed the performance or the usual phone case. Each component added to PBAT has its own attribute to improve the phone case. Take the coffee grounds for example. These improve the strength and elasticity of the case, giving the case its plastic, rubber-like feel. The wheat-straw adds to the stiffness and toughness of the case. Each filler is not only sustainably sourced, it improves the features of the copolymer and actually goes one step ahead to the standard case to ultimately protect the device.
The Eco Case has a rubber-like structure which seamlessly fits in to the phone without giving that heavy feel. The majority of phone cases can only offer extreme protection by simply increasing the size of the case. This makes day-to-day use inconvenient, and often the case is neglected, with the customer just taking a chance on damaging their phone. With the help of PBAT, the hard-back shell can absorb impact with ease. The raised edges around the perimeter of the device protect falls face-on, which can save a costly screen crack. The elasticity makes it simple to fit the case on and off, essential to keeping the device clean. The Eco Case comes in five finishes of coal black, royal blue, olive green, baby pink and candy red.
The iOutlet’s goal
The companies goal is to simply help our planet become more sustainable. Everyone can make a difference individually, so there’s no reason why The iOutlet can’t contribute. Every year, the company are making more steps to join the circular economy. Packaging is now made from just cardboard, eliminating those single-use plastics. With the companies launch of the Eco Case now under way, more processes can be evaluated to see where slight tweaks can help conserve the world we live on.
