Gadget insurance terms

These terms apply to the gadget insurance offered on theioutlet.com, including the offer of two months’ free cover. The policy itself is set out in the Policy Wording and the Insurance Product Information Document. If anything on this page conflicts with the Policy Wording, the Policy Wording applies.

Who provides the insurance

The insurance is arranged and administered by Warranty & Creditor Services, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. It is underwritten by Novus Underwriting Limited on behalf of Collinson Insurance, a trading name of Astrenska Insurance Limited (FCA Firm Reference Number 202846).

The iOutlet is a trading name of James Green Limited, Unit 37A Sisna Park, Sisna Park Road, Plymouth PL6 7FH, registered in England No. 08437263.

Our role

James Green Limited are an authorised agent of Mark Stuart Andrews t/a Warranty & Creditor Services. We are not the insurer and we do not administer your policy.

We do not give advice or a personal recommendation on whether this insurance suits you. Please read the Insurance Product Information Document and the Policy Wording to decide whether the cover meets your needs.

The insurance is optional. You do not have to take it to buy from us or sell to us, and turning it down does not change your order or the price you pay.

The two months’ free cover offer

When you take out cover through our website, there is nothing to pay for the first two months. After that, the monthly premium shown to you before you agreed is collected by Direct Debit by Warranty & Creditor Services, not by us, and appears on your bank statement as “Warranty&Creditor”.

To be eligible you must:

  • be a UK resident aged 18 or over;
  • hold a UK bank account for the Direct Debit; and
  • insure a gadget that meets the eligibility rules in the Policy Wording. It must be a mobile phone, iPad, tablet, laptop, smartwatch or games console, in your possession and in good working order, and not more than 36 months old when the policy is taken out. It must also have been bought new in the UK, or bought refurbished in the UK with at least a 12-month warranty.

If you buy a device from us, the policy starts when your order is dispatched. If the order is cancelled before dispatch, no policy is created.

If you sell a device to us, the cover is for a device you are keeping, not the one you are sending us. The policy is set up when you place your trade-in.

One policy covers one gadget. We may change or withdraw this offer at any time, which does not affect a policy that has already started.

What is covered

Cover includes accidental and malicious damage, liquid damage, theft, and breakdown after the manufacturer’s or retailer’s warranty has ended. Accidental loss is covered for mobile phones, iPads and tablets only. The policy also includes worldwide cover on trips of up to 90 days and the Gadget Helpline.

An excess applies to every claim, with an extra £25 on accidental loss claims. The monthly premium and the excess for your gadget are shown before you agree to take out cover. Full details of what is and is not covered, including all exclusions, are in the Policy Wording.

Devices we sell come with our 12-month warranty. A fault during that time is handled by us under the warranty, and breakdown cover applies after the warranty ends.

How long the cover lasts, and cancelling

The policy is a monthly rolling contract with no minimum or maximum term. It continues for as long as the premium is paid.

You can cancel within 14 days of the policy being issued or of receiving the policy terms, whichever is later, for a refund of anything you have paid, provided no claim has been made. You can cancel at any time after that, but no money will be refunded.

To cancel, contact Warranty & Creditor Services. We cannot cancel a policy on your behalf. They will give you at least 30 days’ written notice before changing the price or the cover.

Returns, refunds and replacements

Returning a device you bought from us does not cancel your insurance. If you return a device for a refund, contact Warranty & Creditor Services to cancel your policy. Otherwise the policy and the Direct Debit will continue.

If we send you a replacement device, contact Warranty & Creditor Services so your policy can be updated, as a replacement may have a different IMEI or serial number.

Cancelling your insurance does not affect your rights under our terms and conditions, including our returns policy and warranty. This cover is different from our Screen Cover Plan, which is provided by us.

Your information

To set up your policy we pass the following to Warranty & Creditor Services:

  • your name, email address, phone number and address;
  • the bank details you give for the Direct Debit;
  • details of the gadget, including make, model, storage, price and IMEI or serial number; and
  • your order reference.

Warranty & Creditor Services and the insurer use this information as described in the privacy notice in the Policy Wording. We handle it as set out in our privacy policy.

Claims, questions and complaints

Claims, questions about your cover, cancellations and complaints about the insurance should go to Warranty & Creditor Services:

If you are unhappy with how Warranty & Creditor Services handle your complaint, you may be able to refer it to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Details are in the Policy Wording.

If your complaint is about how the insurance was offered on our website, contact us at support@theioutlet.com and we will work with Warranty & Creditor Services to resolve it.
