How do I sign out of an Apple Watch?
Unpairing the watch in the Apple Watch app is what signs it out: it backs the watch up, erases it and takes Activation Lock off, all in one go. If the watch is not with you, or was never paired to the iPhone you have now, remove it from your account at iCloud.com instead.
How do I sign out of my Apple Watch with my iPhone to hand?
- Keep your watch and iPhone close together.
- Open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone and tap My Watch.
- Tap your watch’s name at the top, then the info (ⓘ) symbol.
- Tap Unpair Apple Watch. On a cellular watch, tap Remove [carrier] plan as well.
- Enter your Apple Account password, then confirm.
That password is what removes Activation Lock, so the watch is genuinely signed out rather than just erased.
How do I sign out without the phone, or without the watch?
If you no longer have the iPhone, or the watch is not paired to it any more:
- Go to icloud.com on any computer or phone and sign in with the Apple Account the watch is signed in to.
- Open Find Devices (older guides, and the old version of this page, call it Find My iPhone).
- Choose All Devices, then your Apple Watch.
- Choose Erase Apple Watch, and keep going until it is erased.
- Then choose Remove from Account, or the X beside the watch, to take it off the account for good.
Tip: Forgotten the Apple Account password? Reset it at iforgot.apple.com. Without it the lock cannot be removed, by you or by us.
We cannot process a return, repair or sale while a watch is still signed in: Activation Lock keeps it tied to the account it is on, so please sign out before you send it to us.
