The best selling iPhone ever – The iPhone 6

Let’s look back to 2014, a time of business deals such as Facebook buying Whatsapp and Apple buying Beats, viral internet challenges like the ALS ice bucket challenge and sporting at its finest with the World Cup and the Winter Olympics. One of the technology highlights of the year was without a doubt Apple’s annual showcase of upcoming releases which revealed the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 was the eighth generation of iPhone to be released, with this one making history by being the best selling iPhone ever. Just like the iPhone 5S, the iPhone 6 came in the classic Space Grey, Silver and Gold finishes. It also used the same rear camera of 8MP, as well as continuing the incredibly popular Touch ID feature. So we ask, what made this such a unique hit?

The main feature shown off at the Apple showcase was the brand new chassis, which allowed the screen size to increase to 4.7 inches as opposed to the 4 inch screen previously. Along with this, the phone was slimed down by 0.7mm and the new housing allowed for a larger battery size. The new housing featured a smoother design in comparison to the square design (which ironically Apple have now referred back to with the iPhone 12 series) which evidently appealed to customers back then. With the bigger size, Apple also had to rethink the lock button. The lock button on this device, along with all future iPhone releases is now on the right-hand side, opposite the volume buttons. This move was revolutionary alongside Apple’s latest unveiling too…

The iPhone 6 was the first model to introduce a “Plus” model, with the iPhone 6 Plus. The iPhone 6 Plus, as the name suggests is a larger option for the customer featuring a 5.5 inch screen. This was a huge selling point, as the trend at the time moved towards having a bigger screen. The large screen also featured a gorgeous retina display enabling sharper images on a device, bigger than ever before.
Last but not least, the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus were available with 128GB of storage; the first Apple iPhone to do so. This in hand with the rapid-rise of iCloud, had finally reassured customers that they wouldn’t need to delete old photos 24/7.

The price for this handset wasn’t outrageous either, starting at £539.99 (iPhone 6) and £619.99 (iPhone 6 Plus) respectively in 2014. Fast forward to 2020, in the refurbished industry that The iOutlet knows well, you could pick up an iPhone 6 for just £84.99 from us! An iPhone using a great design and features for an affordable price, saw sales rocket, especially in the used-mobile industry with over 15,000 units being sold to date.
